10 Jul People of Greece – Weekly snapshot 2-8/7
The People of Greece platform asked Greek men and women for their opinions on:
- the Left’s stance on issues of policing, the criminal code, and counterterrorism,
- the perceived freedom of expression of personal views in public discourse,
- urban planning safety,
- the problems of modern apartment buildings and the proposed legislation on these issues,
- in vitro fertilization and the right to access such services,
- film productions based on Greek history and mythology, prompted by the release of the movie “Odyssey” and the casting of an actress of African descent in the role of Helen of Troy.
What did the survey reveal?
Political Violence
Public opinion is divided on the Left’s stance on security and terrorism. – There is a strong willingness to take social action against violence.
Political Expression and Public Dialogue
Self-censorship increases as the audience grows.
Urban Planning Safety
The lack of urban planning controls undermines citizens’ sense of security regarding their homes.
Apartment Building Management
Apartment buildings often become a source of disagreements and conflicts.
In Vitro Fertilization
In vitro fertilization is no longer a taboo, but full public disclosure is not a given.

Walk the thought – what new questions do our findings raise?
- How strong is the influence of party affiliation on the formation of political views?
- Do those who avoid expressing their political views feel more strongly that there are restrictions in Greek society?
- Why are women more likely to hesitate to express a different political opinion among their friends? Is this due to different patterns of social interaction or to experiences of negative reactions?
- What motivation best explains the silence on issues such as LGBTQI+ rights or the Palestinian cause? Is it fear of social disapproval or a desire to avoid conflict?
- Are disagreements in apartment buildings primarily due to financial constraints or a lack of a culture of cooperation?
- What exactly leads younger men to be more reluctant to disclose that they have undergone in vitro fertilization? Concerns about social judgment, issues of male fertility, or privacy?
- Does the preference for showcasing archaeological sites suggest a clinging to antiquity at the expense of modern Greek identity?
- How are attitudes toward “Beautiful Helen” linked to views on immigration, multiculturalism, and LGBTQI+ rights?
