Exploratory talks between Greece and Turkey start this week in Istanbul. The two countries that have had a very tense relationship the past two years, will resume discussions for the first time after many years. There is still some distance between the two with a major disagreement being what they are talking about. Greece says that they would only discuss the limits of maritimes zones while Turkey raises a host of issues including the demilitarization of Aegean islands and disputed areas. In any case though, the resuming of discussions is an important first step for the peace and the stability in the region.
